1.Introduction to the Project

1.1 Project background

1.1.1 Product introduction

Multi-spectral imaging chips have the characteristics of 9 channels, high spectral resolution, high energy efficiency, high spatial resolution, rich information content, compact size, low cost, and a wide range of applications. At present, the project has established cooperation with many well-known brand companies around the world, providing spectral technology application solutions and spectral big data products and services for multiple fields such as smartphones, smart homes, security monitoring, automotive electronics, precision agriculture, medical health, environmental monitoring, aerospace, etc.

The optoelectronic information industry is an emerging strategic industry in Jilin Province, which comprehensively promotes and facilitates the transformation and upgrading of the automotive industry, national defense and military industry, and agriculture. Especially in the key links of the chip industry, there are huge development opportunities that are expected to become a new driving force for economic growth in Jilin Province. In addition, it will also empower the provinces automotive industry, defense industry, traditional agriculture, and medical and health industries, helping the province rapidly build new quality productivity.

1.1.2 Market prospect

(1) Current situation of the multi-spectral chip industry

In 2023, the global optical chip market reached approximately 2.78 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 14.4%. European and American countries are leading in optical chip technology, while domestic optical chip companies are rapidly catching up. At present, the global market is mainly dominated by the United States, China, and Japan. According to data, the size of Chinas optical chip market has grown from 8.322 billion yuan in 2019 to 13.762 billion yuan in 2023, with a compound annual growth rate of 13.4%. With the improvement of technological capabilities and the increase of market recognition, the competitiveness of Chinese optical chip companies is expected to further enhance.

The optical chip industry chain can be divided into three links: upstream, midstream, and downstream:

The upstream mainly involves suppliers of raw materials and production equipment. The raw materials include III-V compound semiconductors such as indium phosphide, gallium arsenide and other substrate materials, as well as industrial gases, packaging materials, metal targets, etc. Production equipment includes lithography machines, etching machines, epitaxial equipment, etc. These raw materials and equipment are the foundation of optical chip manufacturing and have a direct impact on the performance and yield of optical chips.

The midstream refers to the production and manufacturing of optical chips. Optical chips can be divided into two categories: active optical chips and passive optical chips. Active optical chips mainly include laser chips and detector chips, while passive optical chips mainly include PLC (planar waveguide) and AWG (array waveguide grating) chips. These optical chips are the core components in optical communication systems, responsible for the conversion and transmission of optoelectronic signals. The manufacturing process of optical chips involves multiple complex process steps, among which etching is one of the key steps. In the manufacturing of optical chips, etching can selectively remove unwanted materials from the surface of silicon wafers to form specific structures.

The downstream is the application field of optical chips, covering multiple fields such as optical communication, consumer electronics, automotive electronics, industrial manufacturing, and healthcare. Optical module manufacturers embed optical chips into optical devices and package them with other structural components to create optical modules, which are further applied in the communication equipment market, telecommunications operation market, and data center market. The optical module is the core component for the internal interconnection and interconnection of data centers. In terms of mobile communication, the optical module is also used in scenarios such as forward, intermediate, and backward transmission of 5G networks.

The entire optical chip industry chain, from upstream raw material and equipment supply, to midstream optical chip manufacturing, and then to downstream applications, has formed a complete ecosystem that is interdependent and jointly promotes the development and innovation of optical communication technology.

A multi-spectral chip is a sensor chip that integrates multiple spectral bands and can simultaneously obtain spectral information from different bands. These bands may include visible light, infrared, ultraviolet, etc., and are widely used in fields such as Earth observation, meteorological forecasting, environmental monitoring, and agricultural production. The advantage of multi-spectral chips is that they can improve the efficiency and accuracy of data acquisition, while reducing the number and cost of sensors.

Multi-spectral chips have a wide range of applications in fields such as Earth observation, meteorological forecasting, environmental monitoring, and agricultural production. Among them, Earth observation and meteorological prediction are the main application areas of the multi-spectral chip market. The main participants in the market include Hyperspectral Imaging Inc. from the United States, Jenoptik AG from Germany, Spectral Imaging Ltd. from Israel, Cubert GmbH from the United Kingdom, and other companies. The growth of the multi-spectral chip market is mainly driven by technological advancements, increased demand for environmental monitoring, and improved agricultural production efficiency. The multi-spectral chip market is mainly distributed in North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific region, with North America accounting for over 40% of the market share.

(2) Prospects of the multi-spectral chip industry

The spectral chip industry is a dynamic and innovative emerging industry with broad development prospects. Spectral chip is a miniaturized chip used for spectral analysis, which can achieve rapid and accurate analysis of material components and is widely used in environmental protection, medical, chemical, food and other fields. With the continuous advancement of technology, the technical level of spectral chips is also constantly improving, and their application fields are constantly expanding.

By now, the spectral chip industry has formed a complete industrial chain, covering multiple links such as chip design, manufacturing, packaging, testing, and application. Among them, chip design is one of the key links, which requires optimization design combined with computer simulation, emulation and other technologies. Advanced micro-nano manufacturing technologies such as photolithography and etching are required in the manufacturing process to ensure the accuracy and stability of the chip. The packaging and testing process is to test and verify the performance of the chip to ensure that it can perform well in practical applications.

At present, the multi-spectral chip market is growing rapidly and is expected to continue its strong growth momentum in the coming years. The market size of multi-spectral chips is expected to grow from approximately $1 billion in 2020 and to have been approximately $2 billion by 2025.

As a new generation of imaging devices, multi-spectral chips have added new functions such as substance recognition and low light imaging, which can perfectly replace traditional RGB sensors. In the future, the related market capacity will shift to the field of spectral imaging chips, and the demand space is huge. Take mobile phones for example: by 2024, the leading mobile phone companies are expected to require 20 million chips; they are expected to require 200 million chips by 2025; from 2025 to 2027, all mobile phone manufacturers will replace their image sensors with single-chip spectral chips, which is expected to require 700-1000 million chips; after 2027, all mobile phone manufacturers mobile phone image sensors will achieve full replacement of spectral chips (including front camera, main camera, wide-angle, etc.), which is expected to require 2-3 billion chips. The transformation of color sensors to multi-spectral sensors is an inevitable trend, and the market size of downstream application fields will rapidly expand.

1.1.3 Technical analysis

The existing technology has solved the problem that traditional spectroscopic instruments cannot be widely used in the civilian field due to factors such as volume, weight, and cost. It is currently the only product with mass production capacity applied in the consumer electronics field at home and abroad, and holds an exclusive position in the market.
